DebateHero is a free-to-start web game for practicing debate against AI versions of historical figures, or against other players live. You pick a figure, set a topic, and argue it out by typing or speaking. In the debate modes an AI judge scores each exchange, so you can see which of your arguments held up.
“Let us begin with the part that is hard for me, since we will get there anyway. Then you may put the rest of it as sharply as you like — I would rather be pressed than flattered.”
What is DebateHero?
Debate friends and historical figures. Make your case, hear the other side, and see which arguments hold up. Or skip the competition and just talk.
Live Duel
Bring a friend or challenge a character. Pick a topic, take a side, and make your case out loud. The shared scoreboard keeps track of your claims, reasons, and rebuttals.
Play Live Duel ↗Take turns. Answer each other. Make every point count.

Meet the minds behind the ideas
Choose a figure, set a topic, and follow your curiosity. Ask a question, challenge their ideas, or watch two figures disagree. Their responses draw on their writing and speeches.

Yes, to start. The Daily needs no account and costs nothing, and typing is unlimited on every plan. What you pay for is voice: a free account comes with voice minutes to start and a few more each month, and the Arena Pass adds more along with the full roster. Prices are on the pricing page.
It scores what an argument does, not how polished it sounds. In most debate modes each claim is graded from 0 to 4 and each reason, piece of evidence or rebuttal behind it from 0 to 3, and a good rebuttal takes points off the other side. Repeating yourself and filler earn nothing. The rulebook has the full breakdown for every mode.
Right now the roster includes Alexander Hamilton, John F. Kennedy, Andrew Jackson, Marcus Aurelius and Mohandas Gandhi, and more. Each one is grounded in their own writing and speeches, not internet scraps.
Yes. Open Live Duel and invite a friend. Take turns making your case by voice, with a shared scoreboard showing each side’s arguments and supporting reasons.
It works for both. Students can practice a case against an opponent who argues back and see which points scored, and Live Duel runs timed Public Forum style rounds with crossfire. Deeper collections, including ones built for Columbia Core courses, unlock with an access code. You need to be 13 or older to make an account.
Not for the Daily. Everything else, including debates on your own topic, live duels and class collections, asks you to sign in.
